Adele took to Twitter to share her delight at being nominated for an Oscar last night, writing: "Oh my God I feel like Meryl Streep! Thank you", to her 11 million followers. The Vogue cover girl has been nominated in the Music: Best Original Song category for her theme song Skyfall, from the James Bond film of the same name.

The 24-year-old, who gave birth to her first child in October last year, is expected to appear at the award ceremony in March – which will feature a segment in tribute to the 50th anniversary of James Bond. The track was named Best Song at the 2013 Critics’ Choice Awards last night. It’s also reported that Adele is set to perform at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, a rumour that has yet to be officially confirmed.

Anne Hathaway – shortlisted in the Supporting Actress category – had a similarly excitable reaction to the news of her nomination.

"The first thing I did was just breathe. I almost hyperventilated because I realised that I had been holding my breath for a couple of months," she told the New York Daily News. "I started crying and I started laughing, and then doing both at the same time. And then the calls and the texts started coming in."
