Katie Holmes then did something very different. Even though she didn’t quit acting, she moved to New York City, which was a long way from where she used to live. It was one of the many big changes Holmes made after she broke up with Tom Cruise.

“Yes, it’s sometimes a little too open,” she told InStyle. “We work hard to move around and find our way. But what I love most about New York is that it feels like home to me and my child.”
“New York has treated us both very well. I love going to the theater and the art places in my area. Things like that are a big part of why I love this place. I like the Knicks a lot. I love having conversations with my friends in the lift. I like feeling a part of something big.”
Holmes would then praise all the things she has available to her. “When you have 25 things to do every night, you can’t do your own thing… I’ll go to Broadway Dance Center to take a class. The Joyce Theater is where I’ll go. I go to classes for hot yoga and for fighting. I belong to a book club. I take advantage of all that the city has to offer.”
Both sides kept quiet about the facts of why they broke up. But there are stories going around that Holmes was made to sign a crazy contract just so she could get out of the relationship.
